Individual Therapy

Overall Approach

I approach therapy through a broadly psychodynamic lens, which means that I will help you understand your emotions and behavioral patterns by processing experiences, relationships, and reactions throughout multiple periods of your life, past and present. In creating this self-awareness, we create more space to move through your life with intentionality instead of feeling like you’re on autopilot. You’ll also develop new insights that may help you challenge your beliefs about yourself, others, or the world around you in useful ways.

In addition, I often incorporate aspects of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). This may include engaging in mindfulness exercises or learning specific skills (e.g., grounding skills for managing panic attacks). I tailor treatment and my approach based on each individual I meet with and the specific issues they would like to address in therapy.

Treatment for Survivors

I have specific training and experience in working with survivors of sexual assault. I spent many years working in university counseling centers, and I served as the trauma specialist in this setting, providing targeted treatment for students who experienced sexual assault. I enjoy working with this population and strive to help survivors feel heard, safe, and empowered.

I also enjoy working with artists and other individuals in creative fields (or people who just enjoy any form of creativity in their free time). I keep art supplies in my office and am always happy to incorporate this into our therapy sessions for anyone who is interested. Creating art can be a way to unlock feelings or express yourself in a different and nonverbal way. Some people also find that keeping their hands busy creating something can help them feel more comfortable opening up in our conversations. If you’re an artist who would prefer to keep your artwork outside of the therapy room, that’s fine too!
